This is one of those books you can't wait to finish and yet you want it to go on forever. I don't often read "romance" books, having found many to be formulaic and sloppily written, with shallow plots and a little too much graphic sex for my taste. Not that I am against sex per se, but I don't care for it as a spectator sport. James has included the obligatory hot sex scenes, but beyond that, there's a story here and quite an intriguing one, involving time travel. This is a love story, or rather two love stories. The characters are believable, well-rounded individuals rather than generic cardboard cut-outs and I found myself caring what happened to them.

Time and Forever Susan B James 9781619356412 Books Reviews

This superb time travel novel sucks the reader inside its pages with a giant whoosh and never let’s go! It follows the delightful adventures of two 60ish women who are both unhappy in different ways. The first, Sherry regrets never following up on the brief encounter she had with a man named Jeremy in London in 1969, and the other, Lorena, still mourns her deceased husband, David. They have the opportunity, through virtual time travel, to head back to a magical year for them both—1969. What happens next I wouldn’t spoil for the world, but must say is truly magical. One of the lovely ingredients of the novel is that it doesn’t sideline older women—valuing them (and their men) as desirable and intelligent no matter what their age. The book also delves into the theme of ‘choice’ and how ones we make can alter, not only our lives, but all those we love. Highly recommended!
...Wow, what a ride. More than I expected. Nostalgia will delight you if you remember 1969 but if you don't recall that time period, you will be delighted and enamoured by the romance & charm of the innocence of men & women. Then you are treated to a segment of Hollywood and the iconic clubs & cafes (i.e. Schwabs Drugstore) which will introduce you to a beautiful lifestyle which ceases to exist today. The characters are very relatable and you develop a kindred spirit early on, join them in a ride that wish will continue. Always a happy ending which I embrace. It's a fast & easy read (220 pages) and I can see Time & Forever flying off the shelves at Airports. It left me with a smile and I'm keeping my copy and plan to read it again, and again hence I give 5 Stars.
Nothing better than a trip into the past to find love. The combination of time travel and romance is irresistable.
I love the idea of second chances, and I especially like the premise that women don't hit their sell-by date at 29. This is the story of two mature women who get the opportunity to take their 'roads less traveled' and to have do-overs. Their intelligence and maturity come along with them as they see 'what might have been.'
To top it off, the women get to visit London in the 1960s, where the author gives us an amazingly clear and nostalgic idea of what it would have been like to hang around Carnaby Street in the era of the British Invasion.
This is just a confectionary of treats romance, love, time travel, London. 100 percent up my alley!
I loved this time travel romance. It tells the story of two best friends who go to a virtual reality adventure castle that enables them to go back to 1969, London and California. It basically gives them a chance at a do-over in the romance department.

This book is quite an adventure and full of surprises. I love the way the story unfolds. The historical references brought back my own memories from the summer of '69. I loved all the characters, and the magical surprise twist at the end. Really a great read.

I listened to the audio version and narrator, Stephanie Bentley, did a fantastic job. This book is going on my favorites shelf. I will definitely read more by this author.
This delightful debut from Susan B. James more than delivers on the promise of its premise. Time travel back to 1969 under the guise of a virtual reality experience provides these two women in their sixties another chance at love. It's a classic romance with really well done time travel logistics, not an easy feat. It was particularly fresh to introduce some romance for the ladies in their present day incarnations, in addition to steamy encounters in their 20-year-old bodies in '69. Overall, a fun and satisfying read that will surely win James fans for whatever she writes next.
This is a time travel tale to end all time travel tales. It is unlike any other time travel novel I have ever read. Instead of traveling back to some place and time never before visited, each of the protagonists travels back to a place and time where each lived 40-plus years earlier. They even become the younger versions of themselves, and they each get a do-over that changes their present lives. Be careful, it may spoil every other time travel novel for you, because none of the others even come close. I hope Susan B. James keeps writing.
Two friends, divorcee Sherry and widow Lorena, use a Virtual Reality game to time travel (respectively) from 2014 back to London 1969 and Los Angeles of the same year. It’s the summer of the moon landing and the era of free love toward the end of a decade from which many of us who lived through have never fully recovered. “Time and Forever” is an excellent addition to the TT genre and a real page-turner to boot. The usual dilemmas arise from crossing from one time to another variations on the themes, some new, some almost clichés by now. Susan B. James seems to lean a lot on the works of Heinlein and Finney as the popular movie “Back to the Future,” but much of her deductions and plenty of her solutions seem as original as possible. After all, no one has ever really time traveled, have they? So how would the author or her readers know what to expect. Really.
This is one of those books you can't wait to finish and yet you want it to go on forever. I don't often read "romance" books, having found many to be formulaic and sloppily written, with shallow plots and a little too much graphic sex for my taste.
