I love this book. I first read it back in 2008 and I was scared for weeks after. Years later, in 2016, I purchased the book and read it again. Just as scary and just as good as I remember. There are twists and turns, and plenty of scary situations right from the beginning. Each time I've read this, it is so hard to put down, even the second time when I kind of remembered what was going to happen. I recommend this book for anyone who likes horror novels with a little sci-fi as well. Plus, this book really made me contemplate what I would do if this situation happened to me. I like when a book can do that.

A nightmare falls on the world like no one has ever imagined .
Molly and her husband Neil have but only one crusade , to rescue the children everywhere , flowers with no malice completely pure that are actually protecting them without really understanding that is HOPE what makes them reigned over this unspeakable evil. The triumph of the spirit.
Dean Koontz never ceases to amaze me. I've had this book for years and wanted to read it but forgot I had it until we have just moved into a new home. So I put the book on my kindle and read. This book is to me an affirmation of my beliefs .... but hopefully not this scary!!! I'd read this book slowly to not miss Mr. Dean Koontz's meanings. Please enjoy your reading this book and don't read it before bed!!! Lol
I loved this book! It has gone down as one of my favorites! Koontz captured my attention immediately. I felt as though I was actually there from the beginning to the end. I felt the fear, the curiosity, the despair, and all of the other emotions the characters must have felt. It took my mind for quite a ride with the anticipation, concern, and description. It was scary in its own right, but I felt such a complete feeling at the end of this book.
I am the type of person who gets an adrenaline rush from nightmares. Once they are over, I am relieved, but I would not change the dreams I had. This was one of those sort of experiences. I felt like it was one of those long, scary, end-of-the-world type of dreams that is brilliant in its own right.

After this book, I will always look at rain and the San Bernardino mountains in a different light and with a memory of one of my favorite stories.

Some people are giving one star ratings, and I've noticed many of them failed to finish the book. This tells me that simple minds may not be intrigued by the complex and implausible situation in the plot. If you like simple, one-track books, you may not like this one, but if you like an intriguing and other worldly experience, I highly recommend it.

I saw such beauty in most of the story, even in the horror of it all. I began reading with an open mind, and I felt like a better person somehow after finishing it. I felt closer to God, whether or not that's what Koontz intended.
Not the best Koontz book I have read-while , yes the suspense is there, but the descriptions are too long--really good but too detailed and LONG. So good that you find yourself being suffocated by the humidity and plants, mold, etc growing all around. Unfortunately, this is one of Koontz books where he just decides to end the book and it is over just like that. It does have lots of horror so be prepared and he wraps it up quickly with a good ending.
I got sucked into this book. Koontz weaved a tremendous tale of things from other worlds and just-as-mysterious things from this one. And various chapters I thought he was borrowing from over done genres, until I realized his book really creates an interesting new genre. If you enjoy anything apocalyptic, you will enjoy this work.
SPOILERS. This book started very well with a bizarre rainstorm, unexplainable fear, and nature apparently gone askew. Then, when an alien invasion is revealed and it seems the Earth we know will not be seen again, it's both riveting and depressing, even though I hung on because I have never know a Koontz novel to end unhappily. But when it's finally explained...um, seriously? Armageddon??! Straight out of the Bible, complete with Rapture? Really not an ending I was hoping for. I hope that Koontz doesn't pull this stunt again, because I really don't want to wreck my by throwing it across the room.
I had taken a 'break' from reading. I'm now back to it and happy to make it a priority. Dean Koontz has always been an interesting writer for me. I have no idea whether his writing has evolved so much or if this book hit me at the 'right' time but it terrified me more than any other book I have read. I kept waiting for the end of the scarey part that comes right before the resolution, it seemed to go on and on. Like a roller coaster that I jumped on and couldn't jump off until the end. I'm too old for this... WAIT! No I'm not.
